12-19-14 Total Calories

(2257 cals)

In some regards, these meals were a bit of failure because of dinner. The McDonald's compromise really pushed me over the 2000 mark. I could have done with just the one burger, and a smaller fry. Then again, I could have also done without them entirely and eaten the apple left on my desk. If I had left for the social engagement a bit earlier like I had intended, I could have gone somewhere decent. Lesson learned.

12-19-14 Snack

16 oz. Chai Latte from my Local Coffee Shop (280 cals)

(280 cals)
A necessary indulgence for an event that I was socially obligated to attend, but next time I will try to content myself with a tea.

12-19-14 Dinner

2 McDonald's Hamburgers (500 cals)
1 Medium McDonald's French Fries (340 cals)
1 Small Coca-cola (140 cals)

(980 cals)
Poor planning and a previous commitment meant that I didn't have time for dinner, so I lapsed into an old habit and went to McDonald's. I feel the worst about the soda, but in reality, the hamburgers were the most calories.

Not sure if I am losing weight because the scale (which is very old and possibly worn out) keeps returning different numbers every time I step on it. If my average calorie consumption during the bad old days was 2500+, my new daily consumption is now about 700-800 less than that. I hope that change is having an effect. I do notice that I am not as hungry in the evening as I would have expected with that reduction. My mood, though has been low lately due to non-food reasons, and I wonder if that is helping to depress my appetite.

12-18-14 Evening Consumptory Relaxment

1 cup of Blackberry Tea (2 cal)
1/2 tbsp of honey (32 cals)
1 small (1" square) brownie (56 cals)

(90 cals)
Had an evening tea at a coffehouse. As for the title, I thought there should be a better word/phrase for the period of time where one eats or drinks something to relax in the evening, either by oneself or among friends. A "Post-prandial pause" sounds entirely too clinical to me.

12-18-14 Dinner

12-17-14 Total Calories

(1761 cals)

The issue with today's meals is that I ate a dinner that cost about 9.00 dollars. Whenever I eat out, I am probably consuming way more of the wrong calories than I should. I can also never be 100% certain if the calories estimates are accurate. As this is day two in my meal restart, I haven't been tempted too much to eat too much of the wrong thing. I also haven't felt too hungry. Of course, time will tempt me in my resolve, but as long as I know that I need to change and am committed to my goals, I should be able to persevere.

12-16-14 Total Calories

(1565 cals)

Nine hundred calories less than the day before. I didn't feel deprived or hungry, except when shopping around 9pm. I briefly considered ordering a couple of tacos from a fast food place, but ruled against it in the end. At the store, I purchased some fruit and things to make turkey sandwiches in an effort to avoid fast food in the afternoon. I drank a lot of water today—maybe four or five glasses. I am still motivated to lose weight. One thing that I didn't do was researc

1 pat of butter (36 cals)
1 small brownie (40 cals) 1 Chobani Cherry Yogurt (130 cals)

1 tsp cooking oil (60 cals)
1 tsp green salsa (2 cals)
1 glass water (0 cals)

In the heat of the moment, after having finished this burrito, I felt the urge to order and eat more. However, an hour and a half later, I feel full. I am drinking more water than I usually do. Not sure if that is playing a role in keeping my belly feel full. (*Side Note: this was 3.99, which for one meal out, was fairly cheap.)

More than I wanted today, but will do better in future. Need to bring my own lunch to work in order to keep numbers down. Still working on learning how to make dinner entrees.

Getting Serious with This

For whatever reason, I stopped doing this blog. It could have been a problem with simple motivation to continue, or a larger external problem that made it easier to quit. Whatever the case, I have to start up again. I weighed myself this morning and wasn't too surprised to see the result but was also saddened by it.

I know our society over values physical appearance and youth. However, I'd like to lose weight to both improve the look of my midsection and to be healthier. I probably have sleep apnea, my knees twinge every once and awhile, and I'm not getting good rest at night. All of these troubles will only get worse as I age. I am still young enough to do something about all of this.

Therefore, in light of all of the above, I am going to try and be more serious about this blog. I will track my food intake to help me see where my problems. I am also more committed to learning to cook, and more committed to cutting out sugar and refined carbs. I am certain these things are the worst issues. Depending on the cost (which I can hardly afford), I will also look at attending a gym. I hope to see results.
